Tenth Interval History
01.01.001.10I-- Tenth Interval Begins
10.17.094.10I-- Major Pernquake devastates Southern High Reaches territory, splitting the land between Tillek Hold and Fort Weyr. Tillek Hold is now on Tillek Island. (Richter scale equivalent of 8.3)
10.18.94-- Shortly after midnight, approximately three candlemarks after the quake, the peak atop Fort Weyr literally explodes. This causes chunks of rock to fly through the air, killing Fort Weyr’s watchdragon and rider. This explosion was immediately followed by gushes of lava spewing out the open hole over the sleeping Weyr. All inhabitants were trapped and incinerated within minutes. They never knew what hit them. This lava shower was so spectacular, not only did it cause a glowing lake in Fort Weyr’s bowl, but it also sent lava hurling down the mountain and through the tunnels, obliterating Fort Hold and the Harper Hall by dawn.
10.19-10.27.94-- Volcanic ash in the atmosphere, which followed the sudden eruption which killed close to one fifth of the Pernese Population, began settling to the ground. This caused some minor atmospheric changes. Which eventually leads to the destruction of the grubs, along with some other adaptations.
10.28.98-- First case of Plague was reported at Ruatha Hold near nooning. By the end of the day, there are nearly a dozen cases in the area.
11.01.98-- Masterhealer of Pern is called in and by the end of the day, the number of cases has tripled. Ruatha Hold and all minor holdings nearby are placed under a strict quarantine.
13.21.98-- One of the first few to die from the outbreak, the Masterhealer passes shortly after dark. Immediately upon hearing the news, the new MhofP reinforces his support of the quarantine.
02.11.100-- Losing support from the people within the quarantined area from one small cothold apparently unaffected, MasterHealer lifts quarantine. The number of cases are all but gone in the past few months.
05.02.104-- Keroon Beasthold is decimated by a sudden likeness of the Ruatha Plague in their beasts which spontaneously began dying right in front of the MasterHerder of Pern.
08.13.104-- Hundreds of cases of plague roll in from humans and beasts alike. All of Northern Continent is placed under quarantine. Ista Island, High Reaches and Southern Boll territories are the only exceptions.
08.15.104-- Emergency Conclave is called to discuss sudden outbreaks and what to do about them. Nearly a thousand cases are now reported.
08.16.104-- Volunteer dragonriders from Ista, High Reaches and Benden Weyrs travel south to search for potential sites for a new home.
08.18.104-- Southern Weyr, abandoned a century ago, is deemed a makeshift command center.
08.19.104-- Ships set sail from Tillek, S. Boll, and Ista Holds carrying hundreds of fleeing refugees heading south toward safety.
08.22.104-- Nearly ten thousand cases of plague reported, it is apparent the mountains are no longer boundaries. All of Northern Continent is placed under quarantine. Ista Island pleas asylum and is declared unapproachable.
10.04.104-- Landing is discovered and named top prospect for resettling by scout dragonrider T’laran and brown Lasanth.
01.04.105-- Of five potential sites for a new weyr, Landing is accepted by Southern Faction as a new home. Two Pernese countries now officially exist.
01.06.105-- New Hope Weyr is Founded at Landing. Two southern Weyrs exist.
02.14.105-- First Northern Plague victim dies. All of Northern Continent is affected.
02.15.105-- Ista Weyr and Island is abandoned, all remaining residents flee for safety.
02.16.105-- Kahdena Weyr is founded in Western Island Range as Ista refugees resettle a safe distance from mainland.
05.19.105-- Ford of Red Hanrahan floods, destroying Ruatha Hold. Renamed Hanrahan River.
12.21.105-- Plague claims ten thousandth victim. Pernese population one third of that eleven turns ago. Southern continent is prospering. Southern Boll Hold is never affected by plague. Kahdena territory settling in.
03.16.106-- Benden Weyr’s final gold dies. Within a few days, remaining few dozen riders transfer out to other Weyrs also infected. Benden and Bitra holds immediately follow.
05.11.106-- The Dolphin's Bell is found and dredged from the Paradise River. Dolphineering becomes a craft. Dolphin's Bell Hold is founded.
09.21.109-- Apparently the last person dies from Plague. Excluding Southern Boll Hold's full complement of just under 500, another 600 are scattered throughout the remainder of the northern continent. Nearly 200 of these are dragonriders. Less than three percent of the population survive the generation. (approx 16 Turns average)
114-- Belesra is born.
02.06.118-- Ista Weyr Territory is reestablished. SeaCrest Hold is founded.
13.14.127-- Southern and Kahdena Weyrs are abandoned to repopulate Northern Continent. PERN is now one country again. Telgar is seated as #1 Weyr in Northern, New Hope Weyr territory covers entire Southern Continent.
13.15.127-- High Reaches, Telgar, and Igen Weyrs are repopulated.
08.03.128-- Melting of snowy wastes in Northern and Southern Barrier Ranges is first noticed. Climate of Northern Continent is heating up.
131-- Belesra impresses gold Alyalith at Telgar Weyr.
154-- Belesra becomes Senior Weyrwoman of Telgar Weyr.
160-- Northern Snowy Wastes are now white capped mountains. Renamed Northern Barrier Range.
161-190-- Exploration beyond Northern Barrier Range and of Southern continent plays a major role in Pernese society.
183-- Belesra retires from SWW role at Telgar.
01.13.193-- SWW of NHW dies, WW2 Selara and gold Drazoth are promoted at age 28/9 to SWW role.
194-198-- Golds are dying. Hard presed, remaining golds suffer as numbers of new golds and overall clutches shrink. Dragons are in low numbers as preparing for the Eleventh Pass begins.
08.08.199-- SWW Teanaa and WL J'me of Ista lose dragons in a mating flight when J'me suffers a heart attack. Zarina, only other goldrider at Ista, is still in training. An interim Weyrwoman is placed at Ista Weyr until Zarina is ready.
01.21.200-- Interim SWW of Ista dies in freak accident. Zarina and gold Reidath are made SWW at age 14/1.75.
01.01.01.11P-- Eleventh Pass Begins.
03.01.01.11P-- People begin to talk about the end of thread since it has not yet fallen. Goldrider Lythande transfers to Ista Weyr to help Zarina.
05.01.01.11P-- Zarina steps down as WeyrWoman due to stress and young age. Lythande becomes WeyrWoman with Tazzith's flight. (28/14)
08.01.01.11P-- Retired SWW Belesra of Telgar Weyr transfers to New Hope Weyr at age 86.
02.01.02.11P-- Goldrider Haliah transfers to Ista Weyr with her gold Maelyth to act as WeyrWoman 3rd. (24/8)
04.20.02.11P-- Present Day as of April 20, 2002.
